The Nodes of cyranix.net
My network has several different nodes. The cyranix.net network originally started out as a single server being colocated during my time working at FDC Servers. It was less of a personal site and more of a databank running IRC bots (eggdrop), recording shoutcast and icecast streams, and occasionally hosting temporary domains like the now-defunct fnfradio.com.
📁 The Legacy of dungeon.*
Over the years, the scope of that original network has changed. When I launched a home server out of my basement storage room, I needed to segregate my systems by name instead of using descriptive labels like "nameserver."
That gave birth to the original dungeon.cyranix.net, which ran a legendary Minecraft Java server. At its peak, it had almost 5 regular users playing on it (and only one of them was me!).
🛡️ The Provisioning of Epictetus
I wasn't entirely idle during that year off; I was working on the Gaming Index Group. Eventually, I realized I was misusing my mailserver as a project sandbox and risking critical subsystems.
I provisioned a new staging ground named after the Stoic philosopher who taught that external events are beyond our control. Epictetus got a fresh OS, a custom-tuned kernel, an audit trail, and hand-built services: BIND 9, Postfix, Dovecot, OpenDKIM, and Apache.

The original plan was a quick kernel swap and reboot, but I just couldn't bring myself to break that massive uptime milestone without a dire reason. There's always a nagging urge to chase perfection, but after tightening the firewall, running clean pentests, and implementing new security, the server didn't demand a restart. Thus, it was rebranded as Diogenes—the Cynic philosopher who shunned luxury and chose to live exactly as he was.
Bespoke Architecture & Abstract Honesty
The rest of the cyranix.net fleet includes Chrysippus, Citadel (the dungeon.* replacement), Aurelius (isolated storage), and Seneca. They all utilize shared files to propagate a uniform, elegant theme across the entire network layout.
Because the header files grab the true hostname directly from the box rather than using an arbitrary string, visiting www.cyranix.net transparently tells you that you are connected directly to diogenes.
